IMPACTS Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 507 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 1.25 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will allow minor flooding to persist or worsen. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Pikeville, Shelbiana, Garden Village, Chloe, Rockhouse and Marrowbone.

At 639 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Dizney, or 11 miles north of Jonesville. This thunderstorm was nearly stationary.

IMPACT Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Black Mountain, Short Town, Holmes Mill, Kenvir, Dizney, Colts, and Cranks.
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Inner Bluegrass
Cloudy and muggy with scattered rain showers developing in the afternoon. Rainfall amounts will be relatively light.
Bluegrass Foothills
Rain will be frequent throughout the afternoon. Expect around a quarter to a half inch of rain in the hills.
Northeast Kentucky
Be alert for heavy downpours that could cause ponding on roads. Over an inch of rain is expected around Ashland and Morehead.
Southeast Kentucky
Rain will become heavy this evening. Expect accumulations near 1.5 inches in the deepest valleys, which may cause minor flooding.

The moisture axis shifts further west than expected, bringing the heavy rain corridor into the I-65/Louisville area, providing heat relief but introducing a flash flood threat to urban centers.

The western ridge proves more dominant, pushing the rain shield entirely out of the state into West Virginia, leaving the entire Commonwealth dry, humid, and dangerously hot.

The GFS and NAM correctly resolve the suppression from the 500mb ridge. The Euro typically over-saturates the boundary layer in the low-levels during summer ridge patterns, leading to 'phantom' light precip.
The Heat Intensity Dispute
The GFS is an outlier forecasting a high of 96°F for Louisville, while the NAM and Euro suggest upper 80s due to cloud debris.
Why BLEND Wins
While the ridge is strong, the proximity of the eastern trough will likely result in enough blow-over cirrus and mid-level clouds to prevent Louisville from reaching the mid-90s, though it will remain very humid.
