The Frontal Temperature War
A massive 15-20 degree disagreement exists between the GFS/NAM and the Euro regarding afternoon highs. The GFS and NAM forecast intense pre-frontal heating into the mid-90s, while the Euro suggests thick cloud cover and early rain will hold temperatures in the upper 70s.
Why NAM Wins
The NAM's high-resolution handling of the pre-frontal thermal ridge is historically more accurate in Kentucky summer setups. The Euro likely over-estimates the cooling effect of early-day stratiform clouds.
The Louisville Rainfall Bullseye
NAM predicts a significant convective axis dumping over 1.25 inches of rain on Louisville, while the GFS and Euro are much more conservative with totals under 0.5 inches.
Why BLEND Wins
While the NAM is the king of moisture convergence, its bullseye effects are often outliers. A blend maintains the idea of the highest totals being in the Metro without over-committing to a localized flood event.
