Widespread Rain and Gusty Winds Sweep Across Kentucky
A soggy Monday is ahead for the Commonwealth as a moisture-rich weather system moves from west to east. Expect widespread rain showers, gusty winds, and mild temperatures, with the heaviest rainfall likely in South-Central and Northeastern Kentucky.
Confidence Assessment
High confidence in precipitation occurrence across the state, but moderate uncertainty remains regarding the exact placement of the heaviest rainfall axes (South vs. Northeast).

Purchase Area
Rain will be heaviest during the early morning hours before tapering off to occasional sprinkles by the afternoon. Clouds will begin to break up toward sunset. Expect accumulations around 0.5 inches with breezy morning conditions.
Northwest Pennyrile
A wet morning commute is expected, but rain will lose its intensity during the afternoon. Skies remain gray through the evening. Accumulations near 0.3 inches expected.
Southwest Pennyrile
A soggy day is ahead with steady rain continuing through the afternoon. Rain could be heavy at times, especially after lunch. Expect around 1.2 inches of total rainfall.
Barren River
Significant rainfall is expected throughout the day. Be prepared for ponding on roads and gusty winds over 35 mph. Accumulations will likely reach 1.3 inches.
Louisville Metro
Louisville will see its steadiest rain during the morning. The afternoon will feature occasional drizzle and steady clouds. Expect accumulations around 0.4 inches.
Lincoln Trail
Rain will be consistent through midday with gusty winds making umbrellas difficult to manage. Expect total rainfall of approximately 0.5 inches.
Lake Cumberland
Rain will intensify during the afternoon and evening hours. Boaters and travelers should be alert for low visibility. Expect accumulations around 1.3 inches.
Northern Kentucky
Expect a windy day with gusts over 35 mph. Rain will be frequent but light throughout the day. Total rainfall around 0.3 inches expected.
Inner Bluegrass
Steady rain will dampen the morning hours, followed by a windy afternoon with gusts over 30 mph. Accumulations around 0.6 inches expected.

Southeast Kentucky
Temperatures will start in the 80s before rain and fog arrive this afternoon and continue tonight. Expect accumulations around 1.0 inch.
Possible Outcomes
Weather forecasting involves uncertainty. Below are two scenarios representing the range of possible outcomes: the "Boom" scenario shows the worst-case/highest-impact result if conditions align unfavorably, while the "Bust" scenario shows the best-case/lowest-impact result if the forecast doesn't materialize as expected.
The 'Boom' Scenario
The 'Boom' scenario involves the GFS solution verifying, where high-efficiency tropical rainfall training over the southern tier leads to localized 3-inch totals and minor flash flooding in the Barren River and Pennyrile regions.
The 'Bust' Scenario
The 'Bust' scenario assumes the drier Euro/NAM mid-level dry slot cuts off precipitation early, resulting in a quick morning soaking under 0.50 inches for most, followed by a gray but dry afternoon.
Model Disagreements
When models disagree, a call must be made to determine the most likely outcome. This decision is based on a combination of factors including model performance, historical data, and the models general accounting of each climatic region of Kentucky.
The Northeastern Moisture Trap
The NAM is aggressive with moisture convergence in the Northeast KY valleys, forecasting nearly 2 inches of rain, whereas global models are significantly drier.
Why NAM Wins
NAM's superior resolution of valley anchoring and orographic lift along the Appalachian foothills often captures heavy rainfall events in these regions that global models 'smear' out.
The Southern Soaker Dispute
A major disagreement exists regarding rainfall intensity in the southern tier. The GFS produces a massive 3-inch bullseye in South-Central KY, while the NAM and Euro suggest more modest totals closer to 1 inch.
Why EURO Wins
The GFS likely over-convects in zero-CAPE environments, leading to 'phantom' extreme totals. The Euro's steady-hand approach to stratiform rain is more physically consistent with the lack of instability.
